Our Musical Director, Linnea Markgren
Linnea Markgren is a Birmingham-based performer, conductor and vocal teacher. She was born in Matfors, Sweden, and pursued her vocal studies at Birmingham Conservatoire and the Franz Liszt Music Academy in Budapest, Hungary.
Besides her work with Tarantara, Linnea is the Assistant Conductor of the evensong choir of St Martin's in the Bullring and has previously been the Assistant Musical Director of The Midlands Hospital choir. For many years, she has also worked as a supporting conductor and vocal coach for various choirs around Birmingham. In 2012, Linnea also directed and produced Britten's Noye's Fludde for Operamus.
As a singer, Linnea has given numerous chamber music recitals in Sweden, Hungary and the UK. She is also an experienced soloist in choral and operatic works such as Händel's The Messiah and Judas Maccabaeus, Pergolesi's Stabat Mater, Mozart's Requiem, Bach's Magnificat, Vivaldi's Gloria, Fauré's Requiem and Messe Basse, and Orff's Carmina Burana amongst other works. Operatic roles include Queen of the Night (Die Zauberflöte), the title role of Händel's Semele, Suor Genovieffa in Puccini's Suor Angelica and Bastienne in Mozart's Bastien and Bastienne. Linnea is also a member of the jazz band Grandma’s Biscuit Tin.
